The Engies & Speechie Boat Cruise - Sept 2004

Ever since undertaking an engineering course I have noticed that most events seem to be marred by a lack of the fairer sex, this has caused the conversation to decent to topics of highest scores in Diablo or Hallow and what some engineers have done/would like to do with their (suspected imaginary) girlfriends… In an effort to lift the profile of engineering social events and to relief some of the frustration that could be detected during lectures and breaks near the WLT’s (the nursing and humanities area of the uni) the Engineering Society approached Speech Pathology social committee regarding organising a yearly ball together... And to everyone surprise they actually said YES!!!!!

Hence the birth of the “Engineers & Speech Pathology Boat Cruise” the event was held on the Victoria Star which is better described as a ship rather then a boat and a truly great venue refer to the web site for further information. To the best of my memory (writing 2 years after the event) the event cost $65, the cruise run from 7-12 am with complementary beer, wine and soft drink, $1 sprits and $2 bottled drinks. Unbelievable I know!!!

A great night was had by all, stories included a certain female friend throwing her glass filled with champagne to what she considered overboard, only to have it land on another guest innocently having a conversation on the deck below. Acts of true nobility as Michael Libratory paid not only one but two girls fares onto the cruise blowing the budget for the night forcing him to drink the complementary beer and wine from start to end of night, a true gentleman Libba! Towards the end of the night several patrons developed sea sickness despite near perfect conditions outside…

The photos show some of what was a great night. But as I did not bring my own camera I have had to rely on the generosity of others to get the few shots I have, many thanks to Urhan… If anyone has any other photos they would like to share it would be appreciated.
